I know we have learned a lot about how the nonprofit sector got started and came about. But, how does a person actually start their own non-profit? Do they need to have more than one person with there in order to start the organization? We may have touched on these questions, but I am just interested in knowing what the first steps to starting your own would be. I guess you would have to do research and see if there was already a non-profit organization out there that covers what you wanted to be expressed, but if you surpass this than how do you actually start one of your own?

My aunt started a nonprofit in southern VA for battered and abused women. The Odessa house, which is named after my great great grandmother. The house gives women a place to try to get back on their feet and also a place to feel safe. I never asked her how she started it but now I am very interested in hearing what she had to go through. I do know that It took at large toll on her with the time she had to put in to it and the pressure she was under from it.

I have the same questions you do about the non-profit sector and how does a person actually start one. One of my suggestions were to do the next EL project, in class, as a start-up of a non-profit. One of the suggestions that were made before but never went anywhere with it. Also, I am expressing an interest in actually starting a charity foundation of some sort. Like the MS society walk/ bike ride or the Susan B. Komen race for the cure. Have any idea?
